These dogs were more than just companions for the explorers, as their safety sometimes depended on their strength and tenacity. In 1952, the explorers learnt that there would be no relief for lack of funds. What was to become of the dogs? Slaughtering them, as Paris proposed, was out of the question. They appealed to the press to adopt the animals. There were over 3,000 responses. Four years later, we meet up with Bj\u00f6rn, born on board the &#8220;Charcot&#8221;, and Yfaut. They belong to a doctor practising in the Cantal region of France, and make it easier for him to visit his patients in the snowy winter months.
